Dr. Dean Schraufnagel, President of ATS 2010-2011からのメッセージ

Japanese Acknowledgement

On March 11 of this year, a terrible tragedy struck Japan. We heard about the most destructive earthquake ever to occur, and most of us watched a mountainous wall of ocean sweep cars, homes, and lives into the sea. Added to this, damaged nuclear electric power plants leaked radiation into the area further destroying the lives of those who survived the tsunami. Working around the clock, brave Japanese citizens banded together to rescue those who could be saved and fix the stricken plants.

Our new reports gave us hourly updates. One CNN reporter told of the open and damaged shops, but said there was no looting. She asked a Japanese man on the street, who said, “We do not loot. In times of tragedy we work together as one.”

I can tell you that at this time of crises, the ATS, like the rest of the world, felt at one with Japan. We felt helpless to do much, but we greatly admired how they carried on despite the disaster. I would like to give special recognition to the Japanese Respiratory Society and all our Japanese colleagues in attendance.
